Every milspouse has at least one of these unpopular, secret opinions

By Lizann Lightfoot
Sometimes I open my mouth and insert my foot.

Not literally, of course. (I’m not that flexible). Just figuratively. Like the time I was at a group event with a bunch of military spouses and I accidentally said out loud, “Things will be easier when my husband deploys.”

I got a bunch of blank, confused looks in response.

But yes, there’s a small part of me that actually looks forward to deployments. Of course I miss my husband, but when he is gone the house stays cleaner, I can set my own schedule, and I get a lot more work done. I’m sometimes afraid to voice this opinion in military spouse circles because it’s much more popular to complain about deployments. But I can’t be the only one who feels that way. And even if I am, it’s still my opinion.

There are tons of unpopular military spouse opinions that most people don’t like to share. Some parts of military spouse life are actually fun or not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I bet you have your own unpopular opinion as a military spouse, and it’s probably not about pineapple on pizza. Every one of these should end with #Milspouse #Unpopularopinion!

Which of these unpopular military spouse opinions do you share?

1. I don’t like when the Marines switch to rolling their uniform sleeves. It’s annoying to wash.

8. We timed it so that I would be pregnant during deployment. On purpose. Because I would rather go through a deployment pregnant than with a newborn.
