Have you volunteered lately?

National Guard VolunteerBy Rose Holland

I have been involved in Family Readiness Groups (FRG) for most of my husband’s 20+ years of service. A few years ago, I found out about an amazing team of volunteers that coordinated webinars to assist National Guard and all service volunteers in enhancing their leadership, communication and volunteer management skills. I quickly wanted to become one of them and a little over 2 years ago, I did. Each of us has joined the Volunteer Training Team (VTT) for different reasons. The one thing we all have in common is that we are all passionate about helping other FRG volunteers and staff.

The VTT began in October of 2009 with a small volunteer team supported by the National Guard Bureau’s Family Program Division. After initially offering webinars on volunteer management, the team later expanded its webinar offerings to three types: Volunteer Management (VM), Everyone Ready (ER) and Volunteer Community Network (VCN). Webinar sessions generally run for one hour. The VTT creates best practice documents after each month’s webinar series.

Today the team consists of 10 volunteer members supported by the National Guard Bureau Family Program who actively work to put together topics ranging from documenting your volunteer experience on a resume to building and encouraging your team. All services are welcome to participate.
