In September, the Newseum–a world-renown museum dedicated to journalism and the media and one of Washington, D.C.’s top-rated experiences–is opening its doors for free as a participating member of Museum Day Live! Sponsored by the Smithsonian Magazine, Museum Day Live! is a one-day event and “annual celebration of boundless curiosity.”
This year, Museum Day Live! will take place on September 23. Last year, 554 museums across the country offered free admission, like the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, VA and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, CA. While some museums are already announcing their participation for this year, an official list from Smithsonian Magazine has not yet been made public. However, Museum Day Live!’s Facebook page is offering hints of museums that are signing on. Included in their events tab are invites for Cape Henry Lighthouse, located on JEB Little Creek Fort Story, and the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka, KS.
Free, downloadable tickets will become available August 25. Each downloadable ticket allows the bearer and one additional guest free general admission. Additional parking fees or special exhibit or IMAX tickets are not included in the free general admission. Those interested will then be able to visit the Museum Day Live! website and search for participating museums by state, zip code, or keyword.
