Under- and unemployment is a chronic problem within the military spouse community. While the internet has made it easier for some spouses in some professions to have remote, work-from-home careers, that’s not the reality for everyone. Looking for a new job every two to three years is nothing to laugh at, but these GIFs are. (If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry, right?)

1. When you find a job description that fits you perfectly

2. When you apply for a job that is less than perfect and doesn’t pay what you’re worth, buuuuut you figure that it’s better than nothing

3. When the application asks you to list every known address for the last five years

4. When people expect you to defend why you want a career because your spouse “already has a salary and benefits”

5. When you’ve PCSed to the middle of nowhere and your advanced degree feels like it’s worthless

6. When someone tells you there really isn’t a military spouse unemployment problem because there are jobs open at the commissary and exchange

7, When you’re in the interview and they ask what your spouse does. (And yes, they’re not supposed to, but we know it happens.)

8. When, at said interview, they say they want someone who is “in it for the long haul”

9. When you’re asked about all of the glaring holes in your resume

10. When people say the reason you’re unemployed is that you’re just not looking hard enough

11. When the only career advice anyone seems to give is to go back to school or start your own business

via GIPHY

12. When you end up underemployed because it’s all that’s available in your area

13. When you get orders and have to start looking for a new job . . . again
