Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s AAFES recently began to offer on-demand car sharing through Zipcar. It’s the first venture of it’s kind on any US military installation, according to DCMilitary.com. AAFES has a five-year contract with the company.
Zipcar is a car-sharing program that charges to use their wheels. Members reserve cars that are nearby. Using a membership card or app, the driver unlocks the car. When finished with the car, the member parks it in a designated Zipcar area.
Monthly membership fees start at $7. There is an option to pay a $35 annual fee for occasional users who may not need monthly access to a Zipcar. All members pay a $25 non-refundable application fee. Active duty members and veterans can take advantage of Zipcar’s military discount.
